What is Python?

Python is a programming language that is used to integrate your systems and improve your productivity and reduce your system maintenance costs. This program runs of Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS X as well as other current and future operating systems. Python was designed by Guido Van Rossum and appeared in 1991. It is defined as a “high level language” that may be applied in multiple scenarios. It is also called scripting language but it may be used in various applications that do not use scripting contexts. Python is often used together with third party programs and tools to be developed into standalone programs.

Python has an open source software license which means it is free to use and develop. Available versions in the market are Python 2 and Python 3.

What is Python for?

Artificial Intelligence projects
Information Security
Scripting and software products
Computer hardware manufacturing
Natural Language Processing

Python is object-oriented and structured programming which is used in functional programming and aspect-oriented programming. It is behind so many programs since it is highly extensible. But using Python in any application would have to understand its core principles which are all about using simple codes, syntax and semantics to make it readable. It opposes most programming tools like Perl that insists that there are several ways to solve a problem; in Python there is only one obvious way to do anything such as language design. This is basically why there are more programmers who are at ease in using Python to create different software.

Other important information about Python:

Beauty, simplicity, explicitly and readability are just some of the core values that are stated in using Python. Its readable language is developed to make programming uncluttered; instead of using punctuation, simple English words are used to make work easier.

Programming statements are also used in Python and these are the cores of programming flow. Expressions used by Python on the other hand are very similar to Java and C programming.

One of the advantages of using Python is that it has the largest standard library that provides suitable tools for any task that you need to be completed.

If you are new to using Python then this may be the easiest and one of the most efficient programming tools that you can use. When it comes to installation for a Mac system, UNIX and Linux usually have Python included. Windows also has Python included and you may use Python Manuals included in every Windows system.

Looking for information about Python is easy; aside from it being included in Windows and Linux systems, a new user may find great resources at the Python Package Index where you can learn specific applications and scripts easily. For Python tutorials these are available at http://www.python.org through their Beginners Guide/Tutorials page.

The Python Software Foundation has the intellectual property rights of Python and underwrites PyCon conference and projects that are managed by the Python Community.
